Thanksgiving is next week. Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed? Is your palate in a rut? Does it crave something different? Something oh so sounding chic? Consider making your family and friends Beef Bourguignon. Don’t be intimated by this Classical French dish. Get your Julia Child’s groove on and serve a stunning dish this holiday season. Think of Beef Bourguignon as a stew with wine.
Raise your hand if you need some wine to get through dinner with the outlaws or pretend those unruly kids aren’t getting on your nerves …
Raise your hand if you feel you spend the entire day slaving away in the kitchen while everyone else watches football, munches on appetizers or
lazy relaxes on the couch or poolside…
Raise your hand if you would rather spend your time enjoying a bubble bath, catching up with friends or focusing on the most important part of any meal –> dessert …
I have the solution. Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon. It’s a wow dish. Cooks in your crockpot while you focus on what you really want to do – whatever that may be.
This Beef Bourguignon made in a slow cooker is an adaptation to the recipe given to me while studying in France. I love saying Boeuf Bourguignon. Pronunciation: Boof *like woof* Burg-un-yun. It makes me sound ooohhhh so French. Ahhhh, those Fall days in the French countryside … back to reality and this recipe. I’ll save the French stories for another day.
I am working again with the Florida Beef Council to bring you my version of the perfect holiday meal, focusing on Beef. This Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon is easy to make and you can swap out the proteins. Once the Beef Bourguignon makes it into the slow cooker – you can leave it for several hours while you enjoy a glass of wine or two.
This year, I’ll be serving this Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon for Thanksgiving. Super excited I can prep this in the morning, leave it to do it’s thing in the slower cooker while I take a long bubble bath. Sshhhh, don’t tell my guests that I didn’t spend the day slaving in the kitchen for the gigantic feast. I might take a cue from the woman in the rice crispy commercial; throw some flour on my face & mess my hair up to make it look like I spent my day in the kitchen cooking. Sometimes you need to carve out time for yourself. This is the perfect recipe to do it without sacrificing yummy goodness.
In my Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon recipe I am guilty of leaving out the traditional pearl onions. Why? I’m not a big fan of peeling them nor feel they make a huge impact to the dish. If you are a traditionalist, go ahead in the last 30 minutes of cooking time to sauté them with the mushrooms then toss into the slow cooker.
Serve this hearty dish in a bowl with some crusty French bread, serve it over mashed potatoes or polenta. The choice is yours.
